Newcastle leader Guimaraes hails ‘the best day of my life’ after Carabao Cup win

Newcastle United Captain Bruno Guimaraes greeted the best day of his life after he had led his side to Carabao Cup Glory.

Guimaraes played the full 90 minutes – plus 12 nervous minutes added time – when Newcastle Liverpool beat 2-1 on Wembley on Sunday to end the 70 -year -old waiting of the club for a large domestic trophy.

Shortly after the last whistle, the Brazilian gave an emotional interview to Sky Sports.

“It's all for these fans,” he said. “They earn everything. When I came here for the first time, I said I wanted to place my name in history.

“We can now say that we are the champions again. This is one of the best days of my life. '

The 27-year-old, who came to Newcastle in 2022, further revealed that he had communicated with Alan Shearer before the kick-off and that he hoped to follow in the footsteps of the former striker by becoming a club legend.

“I have no words,” he added. 'It's the best day of my life. For them [the fans] It is just like the World Cup.

'People grew up and have not seen us as champions. My first year as a captain of this club and it is one of the best days. This is incredible.

“This is my second home. We write history. One day when I leave this club, I want the fans to sing my name as they do to shave.

Shearer – Die 206 goals scored for Newcastle in 405 performances between 1996 and 2006 – was one on Sunday to the Wembley -Verme on Sunday next to his son Will.

Newcastle doubled their lead only seven minutes in the second half thanks to Isak's 23rd goal of the season.

Isak shot home with his right foot from 12 meters, only a few moments after seeing a goal not allowed for offside.

Newcastle was a good prize for their victory, but they were soaked late after Liverpool Federico Chiesa had replaced a goal in extra time.
