Newcastle reach agreement to sign former Arsenal star after missing out on top target in key position

Newcastle has reached an agreement to loan a former Arsenal star for the upcoming Premier League season, with the played played to undergo a medical.

The magpies have found it difficult so far in the summer window, only sign Anthony Elanga and misses Hugo Ekitike and James Trafford, among others.

While Ekitike came to Liverpool for £ 79 million, Trafford had been one of the top goals of Newcastle for more than a year and it seemed that they would take their step this summer.

Instead, however, Trafford has returned to the former side Manchester City in a deal that could rise to more than £ 31 million in reimbursements, which means that the magpies had to look elsewhere to strengthen in the goalkeeper department.

However, they quickly moved to recruit, with an agreement that is now in force for Aaron Ramsdale to join the club.

Ramsdale, which was also followed by Newcastle before his move to the Saints, is now probably switching to St James' park for a one -year -old deal, where the club has an option to make the move permanent at the end of the season.

Ramsdale, 27, previously worked with Eddie Howe when they were both together in Bournemouth. Ramsdale played for the club between 2017 and 2020, before he leaves for Sheffield United.

In 2021 he received his large money movement to Arsenal for £ 30 million, and briefly was their no. 1 but quickly replaced by David Raya. As a result, he joined Southampton last season, but the club ended the bottom of the Premier League and was relegated.

Ramsdale moved to Southampton for a first £ 18 million last summer, and his contract runs until 2028, making an exit tough.

However, Newcastle seems to have found a way and Ramsdale will now compete with Nick Pope for the NO 1 shirt.

The chase of the magpies of Ramsdale comes after Trafford was strongly connected to a move to Newcastle and is even thought that he told the club that he was willing to become a member of last summer.

The side of Howe was previously in conversation with Burnley this window over a deal and later submitted an range of £ 27 million for the Scotstopper of England.

But when Trafford left the Etihad stage two years ago, he signed a contract with a 'matching clause', which means that if City would match a bid that was offered by a rival freer, he would have to return.

Ramsdale, who recently lost his place in the English team, has been given permission to travel to Newcastle for a medical one and to complete the deal.
