Newcastle has set their sights on Aston Villa captain John McGinn while they keep an eye on more summer recruits with Eddie Howe who wants to add in his midfield options before the season starts
Newcastle weighs a movement for Aston Villa skipper John McGinn, while Eddie Howe finally made some progress in this summer's transfer window.
So far the Magpies have tried and have not succeeded in landing a number of new recruits, with Anthony Elanga their only major signing so far. He put them back £ 55 million and now Newcastle wants to strengthen their midfield ranks.
The Daily Mail reports that they have identified the Scotland -midfielder, who played an integral role in the rise of villa from the championship to the Champions League, as a target. It is thought that the McGinn could still be available this summer with two years left on its contract.

McGinn has spent seven years in Villa Park and the Magpies can offer the Lure of Champions League football. The injury to Joe Willock last week will disappear from the first weeks of the season, so that more pressure is exerted on HOWE's means of midfield.
However, the most important focus of Newcastle is currently on securing a replacement for the Wantaway Alexander Isak, who has been told that he has to train solo from his teammates with how frustrated by his behavior. Liverpool has seen an offer for the Swede, but is expected to return.
Benjamin Sesko had identified the northeastern outfit as the man to lead their line with the Slovenian who continued his rise at RB Leipzig. Manchester United, however, came to the party and seems to be his favorite destination when they close after a movement.
This summer it has been a recurring theme for Newcastle and Howe. They had previously looked at Joao Pedro from Brighton before the striker chose a move to Chelsea. James Trafford was the target, but the goalkeeper left Burnley and returned to Manchester City.
Bryan Mbeumo from Manchester United was another player they had on their radar. His former teammate Yoane Wissa is on the Newcastle radar, but no progress has been made to get him from Brentford, which will be abolished to lose two of their attacking stars in one summer, which makes a deal more difficult.
