Newcastle will demand at least £150million for Alexander Isak as they look to fend off interested parties.
They signed the Swede in 2022, snapping him up when he was a highly-rated talent at Real Sociedad and he has continued to flourish at St James' Park. Several big clubs have been eyeing the striker, including Arsenal, who are interested.
However, Newcastle want to keep their star player and will demand a fee that would eclipse the British transfer record if he were to leave for another club. Chelsea have been keen in the past, but they hesitated when the Magpies made it clear how much they wanted Isak.
He still has more than three years left on his contract, which puts Newcastle in a strong position. Sources have insisted to the Telegraph that they are “relaxed” about the situation and have “no interest in selling”, while the player has repeatedly said he is happy on Tyneside.
Should Liverpool fail to agree a new contract with Mohamed Salah, they could consider Isak as his replacement, while PSG are the latest club to throw their hat into the ring. Arsenal have long been linked with an interest in Isak, who has scored 42 goals in 68 Premier League games, as they look for more firepower.
Newcastle have so far been able to retain their top players since the Saudi owners came on board. They have added Isak, Anthony Gordon and Bruno Guimarães, among others. They all have admirers, but the Magpies are yet to lose any of their star men as they continue to pursue their ambitions.
Eddie Howe has taken his striker to task, insisting he has huge room to grow. Many are tipping him to become one of the elite strikers in the world, with time very much on his side.
The Newcastle boss said: “There's a lot more to come from him. It's our job to help him make that happen. Of course, the most important responsibility is that Alex maintains his focus, ignores the compliments and continues to help the team not be selfish. It's about Newcastle and he's playing his part.
“He is what you see on the pitch. He doesn't get overly emotional, which is a great quality for a striker, because the coolness you see and the calmness when goals are scored are part of his personality, part of who he is. to have an extra half second, while other players don't have that. The great thing about Alex's attitude is that he wants to improve. We give him information and he responds.”
