Nieuwecastle made full use of their game in hand and was the rest 4-0 in a jubilant St James' park.

They entered 14 minutes through one of the goals of the season, Jacob Murphy sent a rocket of a shot in the nearby Dean Henderson from an acute corner.

But the game came away from Palace within the room of two dramatic first half of the first minutes. They had a golden chance to be the same when Nick Pope came out to clash and clatter Chris Richards, with a fine awarded after a VAR review.

But the tame kick from Ebereechi Eze was held by Pope, and fewer than 120 seconds later, the former target Marc Guehi of Harvey Barnes changed to his own net.

Barnes declined a devastating counterattack to bring the score to 3-0, then Fabian Schar Murphy's deep free kick house deep in the first half of the stop time for 4-0.

The curl of Alexander Isak stopped the score in the 58th minute, and Palace never looked like scoring a consolation while they went to back-to-back defeats.

Newcastle that again Jason Tindall had in the dugout while Eddie Howe continues to recover from pneumonia now two points free of the fourth placed Nottingham-Bos, while the Palace 12th stays in the table.
