The real Sociedad -goalkeeper Alex Remiro has been the most consistent in Spain in recent years and his form has not gone unnoticed. The 30-year-old has left his contract for two years and demonstrably looks at his last major contract at his age.
Remiro has been covered by Spain for the past two years and has been regularly called by manager Luis de la Fuente as their third choice behind Unai Simon and David Raya. Before moving to Joan Garcia, Barcelona had also identified Remiro as a potential replacement for Marc-Andre Ter Stegen if they could not spend large.
Remiro confirmed that he was aware of their interest in June, but also noted that he had interested other teams in him. The veteran Shot stopper noted that he would discuss his future with the new LA Real coach Sergio Francisco.
Two of those parties seem to be Newcastle United and Aston Villa. Cadena Cope reports that both Villa and Newcastle have made approaches for Remiro and were willing to negotiate a deal for Remiro. He has a release clause of € 70 million, but given his age and the length of his deal (until 2027) they would probably have been able to pay for that compensation.
Villa sports director Monchi, is not afraid of shopping in Spain and thought he could be a safe option to replace Emiliano Martinez.
However, it seems that Remiro is ready to stay. Cope continue to say that he has rejected both their offers so far, and Real Sociedad did not even receive the offer from Newcastle.
“At no time I thought to leave,” he told ETB in July. “I am doing great, very happy and I want to continue to grow and improve here. I always want to win and compete at the highest level.”
They say that he intends to see his contract in the Reale Arena, which will be an important boost for the Txuri Urdin in a reconstruction process.
