Tom Aspinall says he has agreed terms for a fight with Jon Jones, with more news to come in the coming weeks.
The interim heavyweight champion has been chasing Jones, and perhaps more importantly, his undisputed title, for almost two years. And despite his rival's protests, it looks like Dana White will host the clash in 2025.
It has potentially been branded as the greatest heavyweight bout in UFC history, pitting arguably the greatest fighter of all time against a much bigger and seemingly unbeatable competitor. And if Aspinall gets his way, that will happen sooner or later.
Tom Aspinall provides positive Jon Jones fight update
In recent months, Tom Aspinall has been quite clear about how he will accept the deal on the table for a fight with Jon Jones. He has kept an eye on things when it comes to public relations, masterfully choosing his media outlets for interviews and keeping the fight in the news cycle.
And according to a new update in a video for his YouTube channel, it could all lead to an upcoming fight deal. “I'm just waiting for the moment,” he explained to fans. “I said yes to the fight, of course I agreed to it.
“That's it, I'm just waiting for his side and the UFC to sort it out. I'm just training and everything is focused on being as fit and ready as possible. Because who knows? Maybe they'll give me a date soon!
“Or they could say, 'the date is in six months,' I don't know. But that's always the king of what happens between fights anyway, you never really know when your next one is, so I'm just preparing myself now.
“There are no dates yet, but there is an opponent, so we're just really getting fit, getting the body ready and the mind all in sync with the next opponent and the next date. We'll wait and see when that is. I imagine we'll find out in the coming weeks, so it's all good.
Dana White ignored reports of a $30 million purse for Jon Jones
There were reports coming from a Joe Rogan podcast that Jones would make around $30 million for the fight. He had previously stated that in order to face Aspinall he would need 'f*** you money', which would make the final outcome of the fight unimportant.
However, after reports spread across the sport, Rogan was forced to issue a correction after Dana White called him to clarify that what he had heard was not true. Speaking to Theo Von, Rogan noted that fans should not expect any fight news from him despite his role as a commentator on major events.

“I have to correct something because I had a conversation with Yannis Pappis and Chris DiStefano,” he began. “We were talking about Jon Jones and I had heard a rumor that Jon Jones wanted $30 million to fight Tom Aspinall and I heard that rumor and I heard the UFC said yes.
“But it's not true. Dana contacted me and said the rumor is nonsense***. So I felt obligated to tell everyone it was a fake rumor. I don't even remember because unfortunately we did that podcast two weeks ago, I don't remember who told me that.”
