Neymar apologized after he had sent himself because he tried to score with his hand for Santos on Sunday, in what his last game could be for the club.
The Brazilian received a second yellow card in the 76th minute of the 1-0 defeat of Santos against Botafogo, after trying to let the ball fall into the goal with his hand when he tried to turn a rebound.
The players of Botafogo immediately appealed to the goal of the referee and Neymar, which would have put them first, was abolished.
The 33-year-old was already booked in the first half, so she was sent away after his actions.
Neymar went to Instagram stories in the aftermath of the incident and wrote: “The despair to score a goal sometimes makes us mistakes. I want to apologize to my teammates and also to the fans.
“I made a mistake, forgive me. Today, if I was not sent away, I am sure we would have received the three points. The team deserves congratulations for today's game.”
Botafogo scored the only goal of the match 10 minutes after the red card of Neymar, making Santos 18th in Brazilian Serie A.
The red card means that Neymar will now be suspended for Thursday's trip to Fortaleza, which is the last game before his contract ends at the end of June.
The Sunday game was now only his second League performance since the recovery of a hamstring injury was picked up in April.
