Neymar begged fans to forgive him after he had been sent away for a bizarre handball.
The 33-year-old attacker is now back in his boy's club Santos after a difficult stint with Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal.
Santos suffered a 1-0 defeat against reigning champions Botafogo on Saturday evening to leave them in the table in the table after 11 games.
Their problems deteriorated when Captain Neymar was sent away after trying a “hand of God” imitation.
After 75 minutes, with the game only aimless, the Botafogo goalkeeper pounds a cross on his path and hit him in the diaphragm.
A defender was ready to reach and erase the loose ball, but Neymar jumped forward and hit him up close to the net.
The referee, however, saw it and gave Neymar his marching orders who had spent him a second yellow.
And only 10 minutes later Botafogo -wing player Artur Victor Guimaraes scored to condemn Santos to a seventh defeat of the season.
Neymar then posted on Instagram: 'I made a mistake, forgive me! Today, if I was not sent away, I am sure we would have received the three points. You can count these three points against me! '
That could be the last act of Neymar for the club, because his short -term contract ends on 30 June.
He will miss the next match against Fortaleza because of the suspension, and not planned with the collision against Palmeiras until July 12, his time at the club may already be over.
The former Barcelona star is not linked to the form of his first spell at Santos, missed eight games due to an injury and only switched three goals in 11 performances.
