Neymar said he felt “ashamed” after his beloved Santos team was battered at home 6-0 at Vasco da Gama on Sunday.
The Superstar wing player, 33, was reduced to tears on the field after the humiliating defeat, which led to the almost immediate resignation of manager Cleber Xavier.
Neymar, who returned to the boys' club Santos earlier this year after his failed Saudi -Aarabia -Stint, was furious after the defeat, who was the toughest of his career.
Former Liverpool and Barcelona star Philippe Coutinho scored twice for Vasco when his side became the first team to score six goals at Santos in a Brazilian Serie A match.
Santos are now only two points above the relegation zone and have won only six of their 19 league games this season.
Neymar said that Santos fans have “any right” to protest given the current crisis status of the club.
Speaking after the game, he smoked: “I'm ashamed.
“I am completely disappointed about our performance. The fans have the right to protest, of course without using violence.
“But if they want to curse and insult, they are in their right. To summarize our attitude on the field, it was terrible.
“I have never experienced this in my life. The tears were of anger, of everything. Unfortunately I can't help it in every way.
“I think everyone has to go home today and think about what they want to do.
“Anyway, it was total s ***, that's the reality.”
Santos Chiefs wasted no time to respond to the embarrassing defeat and announced a little more than 30 minutes after full -time that manager Cleber Xavier was fired.
A very short explanation was: “Santos FC announces the departure of coach Cleber Xavier.
“The club thanks him for his service and wishes him the best in his future career.”
Xavier, 61, had only been in charge since April and earned the job outside the long list of assistant roles, but who never had the role of a manager before.
Neymar, who was comforted on the field by opposition manager Fernando Diniz, only scored three times this season in his 11 league games for Santos.
He and his teammates, including Chelsea -Leenlee Deiv Washington, will have to bounce back prior to a trip to be in fourth place on Sunday.
