In recent weeks, Barcelona has been associated with a reunion with Neymar Junior in the summer, with the Brazilian superstar from contract in the summer. One of the big questions of this is whether the 33-year-old still needs the commitment and the professionalism that Barcelona needs, and after just two months in Sao Paulo, has had his first controversy at Santos.
Neymar was spotted last week in Carnival in Rio de Janeiro with pregnant partner Bruna Bianardi, as well as Santos teammates Yeferson Soteldo, Tomas Rincon and Joao Basso. But on Sunday, Neymar was not available for the semi-final collision of Santos against Corinthians in the Sao Paulo State Championship, his only shot to lift a trophy with the club.
This did not result in a shortage of recoil from fans, who intended to deliberately miss the game, as reported by Sport. Neymar, however, went to Instagram to defend itself and wrote the following in a story.
“The only thing I wanted was to be on the field today and to help my teammates somehow … But last Thursday I felt some discomfort, so I couldn't play today. We did a test this morning and I felt it again! '
As it was, Santos were beaten 2-1 in the semi-final by Corinthians. It is not the first time that muscle injuries have surfaced before Neymar during this time of the year, whereby the running complott theory pops up again that he avoids playing in the period around 11 March, when his sister's birthday is. Neymar has only played twice around that date in the last decade.
Manager Pedro Caixinha denied that there was something other than an injury, and Neymar is expected to be back for Brazil in ten days. Barcelona is strongly connected to a relocation for Neymar on A Free this summer, but director of Football Deco has moved to destroy that story. Blaugrana coach Hansi Flick is also against returning Neymar, in all respects.
