David Beckham has transformed his Inter Miami team from Major League Soccer boys into a star-studded powerhouse, with the likes of Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez.
It wasn't that long ago that the Florida team were leaking goals under the leadership of Beckham's ex-Manchester United teammate Phil Neville. Everything all changed with the arrival of Messi in 2023, making a match at Chase Stadium one of the hottest tickets in the US.
Messi was joined by his former Barcelona teammates Suarez, Jordi Alba and Sergio Busquets. The seven-time Ballon d'Or winner may not be as fast as he once was, but he has still contributed many magical moments to Beckham's franchise.
But if all goes according to plan, more of Beckham's Miami dreams could soon become a reality. Mirror Football examines the former England captain's ideal scenario.
Lionel Messi extends contract
Many assumed Messi's stint at Inter Miami would be short and sweet. Although his contract expires at the end of the year, there is no indication that the Argentinian plans to leave his boots.
Suddenly the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico is just a year and a half away, and Messi's potential to defend his country's title is now realistic. His 2022 World Cup win was not the final chapter of his international career with Argentina as many expected, as he also won a second Copa America title just a year later.
With Messi considering a possible sixth World Cup final, he could well become the poster child for the tournament. In an ESPN interview in June 2024, Messi said: “As of today, I think this will be my last club. I'm not ready to leave football either.”
“I love playing football. I enjoy training, every day of the matches. [I am] a little afraid that everything will end. That's why I enjoy everything much more, because I am aware that there is less and less to go and I enjoy my time at the club. I enjoy the little details that I know I will miss when I don't play anymore.”
Messi's current spell at Miami ends on December 31, 2025. If he wants to lead Argentina to the World Cup next year, he will have to sign a new contract with Miami soon.
Given Messi's huge impact both on and off the pitch, plus Beckham's obvious admiration, it seems unlikely that the former LA Galaxy star would not propose an extension.
MSN reunited
Neymar earns an eye-watering salary in Saudi Arabia, but a reunion with Messi and Suarez could be priceless. His stay at Al-Hilal in the Saudi Pro League has been filled with many untaxed millions, but injuries have limited him to just seven appearances.
The Brazilian superstar recently hinted he would enjoy a reunion with his ex-Barcelona friends, telling CNN: “It would of course be incredible to play with Messi and Suarez again. They are my friends, we still talk to each other. It would be interesting to revive this trio, I am happy at Al-Hilal, I am happy in Saudi Arabia, but who knows, football is full of surprises.
Although Neymar is only 32, recurring injuries have likely taken many years off his career. If he decides his adventure in Saudi Arabia is over, the next chapter could be his swan song.
At a crucial moment, the idea of rekindling the magic on the pitch with Messi and Suarez in Miami could be too tempting to pass up. However, Neymar's likely contract demands mean the prospect is likely to remain just a dream due to MLS's strict salary cap rules.
Sergio Ramos reunites with Beckham
Beckham knows all about Sergio Ramos having played alongside him at Real Madrid. Ramos would not only still be in top form, but also bring tremendous leadership skills to Chase Stadium.
However, after ending ties with Sevilla last summer, the legendary centre-back is still a free agent. Despite playing alongside Cristiano Ronaldo for most of his career, Ramos recently said he thinks Messi was a better player.
The former Paris Saint-Germain star opened up about his past battles with the Argentine and admitted: “There was years of suffering against Messi. I enjoy him now. He is the best player football has ever produced.”
Miami already has a star-studded front line, so an experienced center back could likely serve Beckham well. Since Ramos is a free agent, it might not take too much convincing to bring him to Florida.
Then again, the MLS salary cap could prevent this deal, especially since Messi, Suarez, Alba and Busquets have already signed big deals.
