Neymar to the Club World Cup: the Mexican team that wants to make it happen

Pachuca strives to strengthen his team as much as possible for the World Cup Club and has not excluded to turn to South America to find a player who fits the bill. According to the Brazilian outlet RTI Esporte, the club looks at Neymar – although there is not much optimism around the movement.

RTI ESPorte reports that Neymar's father, who also acts as his agent, did not offer much hope during first conversations due to financial problems, which suggests that Pachuca would not be able to meet the 33-year-old salary needs. The club handed him directly to collect information before they make a formal offer.

Another obstacle is Neymar's wish to play the tournament with a team that has a genuine chance of winning it. Pachuca is attracted to a tough group with Real Madrid, Al-Hilal and Salzburg part of a broader field that also contains Manchester City, Wydad Casablanca, Al-Aas and Juventus.

RTI ESPorte also notes that Neymar wants to return to European football. His representatives have already closed to clubs in Spain, England and Italy, but have rejected across the board. Yet they remain hopeful that there could be a chance in Europe.

All these factors make the signing of Neymar at Pachuca – whose club World Cup debut is planned for 18 June against Salzburg at TQL Stadium in Cincinnati – very unlikely. That said, Mexican football has seen his share of surprises. A decade ago, for example, Ronaldinho signed with Querétaro and led the team to a final in his second tournament. Until everything is confirmed, nothing can be excluded.
