Nico Williams inspires fightback as Athletic join Frankfurt in Europa League quarter-finals

Nico Williams scored twice when Athletic Club came from behind to book their place in the quarterfinals of the Europa League with a 4-3 total victory over Roma of 10 men.

Yuri Berchiche was also on goal in front of Ernesto Valverde, who were 3-1 winners in the second stage in San Mames, where the stopping time of Leandro Paredes was a comfort for the Giallorossi.

Roma was advanced from each of their previous nine European knockout tires when winning the first stage.

Their hope to expand that series to 10 on Thursday, however, got a huge blow in the 11th minute, when Last Man Mats Hummels received a straight red card for a professional error on Marian Sannadi.

Athletic capied their numeric advantage to level the draw by the bent strike of Williams in the first half of the stop time.

Yuri completed the turnaround with a powerful header in the 68th minute, before he became the provider for Williams to take his second courtesy of a nice individual effort eight minutes than time.

Elsewhere, Eintracht Frankfurt completed a dominant 6-2 aggregated victory over Ajax, after a 4-1 victory in Deutsche Bank Park.

First half goals from Jean-Matteo Bahoya and Mario Gotze put the winners of the Europa League 2022 well under control of the draw, while Hugo Ekitike extended their advantage when he curled home in the 67th minute.

Kenneth Taylor withdrew one with the 100th goal of Ajax in the actual Europa League, but Gotze had the last word when he lifted the ball eight minutes in time in an empty net.

Bodo/Glimt are for the first time to the quarterfinals of the Europa League, after seeing the winners Olympiacos last season with 4-2 from last season.
