Arsenal, Barcelona, Chelsea and Bayern Munich are all interested in Nico Williams and it is the LaLiga Giants who currently lead the race for the Spain -Superster
Arsenal has had a new blow in their pursuit of athletic Bilbao star Nico Williams, with Barcelona reportedly the front runners to sign the winger. Gunners -Baas Mikel Arteta is a big fan of the Spain International and wants to bring in a new left wing player.
Williams is their top goal, after playing for Bilbao in recent years and played a key role for Spain because they won Euro 2024. However, a number of other clubs throughout Europe are also interested in the 22-year-old.
According to Sky Germany, Barcelona is currently leading the race to sign Williams, with Arsenal, Chelsea and Bayern Munich also involved. It is claimed that Joan Laporta, President of Barcelona, is currently training if the deal is financially viable and whether Laliga lets them register the player.
Barcelona has struggled with a number of financial issues in recent years, but it is said that they are ready to continue with the move when they 'get the green light'. Manager Hansi Flick is said to be 'determined' to sign Williams.
If Barcelona is not successful, Bayern is expected to be favorites to sign the Spain star. It will be a huge blow to the Gunners, who so far have to make new signing sessions this summer – but the club is convinced that a deal for midfielder Martin Zubimendi will take place next month.
They also work on the addition of a striker, where Arteta told fans in March to expect a “big summer” in the transfer market. “It will be a big one and we are very enthusiastic about it.
“The way we had planned the five first summers would be very big and they would have different objectives because the turnaround of players and the purpose of those windows would be different.
“But now when you go again, we want to increase the depth of the team, but we also want to increase the quality and skills we need to go to the next step.
“I think Andrea [Berta] is a big addition to the club, a big addition to the team, a team that has already been formed with many great people. Every summer is high because it is a chance and especially because of the number of players we now have in the team, that is necessary.
“But it is a big summer for many things, because we first have to maintain the good foundations that we have and then how clear how we can improve and evolve the team.”
