‘No fair competition’ – Atletico call out Barca precautionary measure decision

Criticism of the Higher Sports Council's decision to provide Barcelona with a precautionary measure, which has temporarily secured the registration of Dani Olmo and Pau Victor, has continued over the past 24 hours, with many clubs and figures from across Spanish football expressing their outrage .

Las Palmas expressed their displeasure with the decision in a statement on Thursday, and a few hours later Atletico Madrid followed up with another strongly worded letter.

“Atletico Madrid would like to express its deep concern about the situation that has arisen in Spanish football following the resolution adopted by the Higher Sports Council on Wednesday. We believe that this decision endangers the current system and calls into question the rules of the game.

“The Sports Law itself includes and protects economic control over La Liga. However, this resolution puts this in jeopardy. The economic control of La Liga has been the main instrument that has succeeded in turning our football into a solvent sector, a process that is internationally admired.

“Our club, like all members of La Liga until this resolution, has respected and will continue to respect the rules of economic control. In order to compete at the level we have done in recent years, we have decided to implement several capital increases, despite the enormous efforts this entails.

“This government intervention sets a very dangerous precedent, as it opens the door to breaking the rules and repeating serious mistakes from the past. Atletico Madrid maintains its commitment to accuracy and responsible management. Without clear and equal rules for everyone, fair competition is not possible.”
