Luis Suárez stole the show in Fort Lauderdale and stepped up in the absence of Lionel Messi to Leagues Cup 2025 in Leiden Inter Miami.
The Veteran Uruguayan -Spits was the undisputed star of the match against Pumas Unam and was central after the team captain was excluded by injury. Suárez wore the number 9 shirt and took the lead and led Javier Mascherano's side along the Liga MX visitors in the last round of the first phase of the tournament.
Despite the end result that promoted the Florida side, things did not start smoothly. In the 34th minute, Jorge Ruvalcaba opened the score for the Mexican team. New signature Pedro Vite – who already made a strong impression – offered the assist and praised a brilliant pass about Miami's backline for Ruvalcaba to end.
Fortunately for the hosts, the Equalizer came just before half -time. In the 45th minute, Rodrigo de Paul – who only made his second performance for Inter Miami – scored his first goal in North American soil, slid to home calmly after a point cross by Suárez found him in the box.
Suárez shines in Miami
Early in the second half, Suárez found the net and celebrated with a sombrero – only for the goal not to be allowed for offside. Moments later he took a yellow card, a frustrating start of the second half.
But the former Barça man continued to push. In the 59th minute, Suárez earned a penalty and converted it cool with a brutal pancake, who beat Pumas Miguel Paul and recovered the lead of Miami. This time the Sombrero – celebration – and the home crowd stood.
To close a striking version, Suárez became the provider again. In the 69th minute he founded Tadeo Allende, who had previously wasted a few chances but made no mistake this time. The Celta de Vigo loaner cut through the Pumas defense and shot home past the advancing keeper for the third part of Inter Miami.
