No time to sulk for Aston Villa after FA Cup heartbreak, says McGinn

John McGinn from Aston Villa said there was no time to sulk after their 3-0 defeat to Crystal Palace in their FA Cup semi-final collision on Saturday.

The Unai Emery team was the second best in Wembley Stadium, with the blast of Ebereechi Eze and the second half of Ismaila Sarr who sent the Eagles to the final of next month.

Villa has indeed lost seven of their last nine games in Wembley in all competitions, with this defeat their third of the season against the Oliver Glasner team.

They also lost three of their last six games in all matches, as much as in their previous 21 games, but there is still plenty left for Villa to play for.

De Villans are seventh in the Premier League table with four more games of their campaign and are only three points on drifts of the Champions League places.

“Of course a huge disappointment. The manager spoke extensively to remind us how far we got. It's not to get away from the disappointment,” said McGinn.

“What was at stake today was huge for both clubs, but for us we are longing for success and a trophy. The club hasn't experienced that for a long time.

“But the manager doesn't have to rage and Rave, it was a huge disappointment.

“We are going to use today's pain to come back stronger next season and hopefully the supporters to get a trip to Wembley.

“The compelling feeling is disappointment. We have an important four games to get European football and bring ourselves back to the Champions League, so that we can't sulk for too long.”

Villa Boss Emery repeated McGinn's thoughts and quickly repeated how far villa came since he took over from Steven Gerrard in October 2022.

During the term of office of Emery, Villa sealed the European qualification for the first time in 14 years in 2022-23 and last year reached the semi-finals of the Europa Conference League.

They then claimed a place in the Champions League in the next campaign and reached the quarterfinals before she lost to Paris Saint-Germain over two legs earlier this month.

Emery said: “Two years ago, when I arrived here, we were in a very bad time and we are improving and our level is going so fast.

“Yes, of course we lost in the semi-final of the Europa Conference League against Olympiacos too. Everything we do is raise our requirements and today the loss is something that we have to accept.

“Sorry for our supporters because they were motivated. We have to respond quickly because we have the most important goal in the competition.

“Today we lost and thank our supporters. Congratulations to Crystal Palace and we will continue. Now it is complete and we focus on the next game.”
