Jon Jones apparently wants an extensive training camp to prepare for Tom Aspinall, but former enemy Daniel Cormier doubts that it is out of fear.
According to prominent MMA journalist Ariel Helwani, the UFC heavyweight champion Jones asks for six months preparation time for a potential title Unification Bout with interim champion Tom Aspinall 'once it is locked', which would imply that a summer showdown is not on the cards.
Despite the many calls to make it happen, the heavyweight title fight still has to be officially made with Jones who is still in negotiations with the UFC brass and Aspinall 'bored' on the sidelines for a date that might never come.
Aspinall won its title in November 2023 and currently has the second longest interim title government in UFC history. Jones has taken his time to unite, instead instead Stipe Miocic on UFC 309 last November.

Daniel Cormier says Jon Jones 'steering' Tom Aspinall story
Details of the new timeline of Jones that are known by the public, former rival and fellow two-phase division champion Daniel Cormier do not buy in the story that “Bones” runs away from Aspinall.
Cormier even thinks that Jones might get a staircase from all this.
“Money is good,” Cormier said about the constant situation of Jones with UFC on his YouTube channel.
'[Jones is like] “Even if you bring me the money, the timing is what I need to fight against this guy …” Why?
'Do you think he just sends a little in this whole, he just doesn't want to fight Tom Aspinall -thing because Tom Aspinall celebrated after Pereira lost because he felt that Jon Jones couldn't use it [Alex] Pereira more like a stool to try to make that fight. '
“They have to make this fight,” Cormier said about Jones vs. Aspinall. “I think Jon sends a lot in this – I feel that Jon likes to play in people,” He is afraid of Tom Aspinall, he doesn't want to fight Tom Aspinall … “”
Daniel Cormier's look at Jon Jones: 'He will fight against Tom Aspinall'
Although Jones and Cormier have not always seen face to face, given their last two fights and the enormous promotional structure for them, Cormier claimed:
“He is not afraid of Tom Aspinall. He will fight Tom Aspinall,” Cormier said about Jones.
“I think he's rumbling with people, man. I think it's fun for this guy. This guy has earned a lot of money and he has been the champion for so long that he really doesn't have to fight anyone anymore.”
Undoubtedly the greatest MMA hunter of all time, Jon Jones has cleared light heavyweights in his heyday generations. Jones became the youngest champion in UFC history at the age of 23 with an emphatic victory over Mauricio 'Shogun' Rua in 2011. Jones was undefeated in title fights, after he won the heavyweight belt in 2023 with a first round entry of Ciryl Gane.
Daniel Cormier gave Jon Jones some of his heaviest battles in the Achthoek with “Bones” given the former light heavyweight champion as his greatest rival and motivator after their rematch on UFC 214.
Their series ended 1-0 (1 AD) for Jones, in which the TKO victory at UFC 214 was destroyed into a no-match as a result of a positive drug test for anabolic steroid Turinabol.
