Jamie Carragher closed VAR after Bournemouth star Marco Senesi avoided an early red card against Liverpool.
The defender seemed to have been handled intentionally, but the virtual assistants did not intervene.
The flash point took place 14 minutes when Mo Salah tried to play Hugo Ekitike new boy.
A bad touch from Senesi seemed to play Ekitike on goal, albeit hardly beyond half the line.
Looking for his mistake, the defender put out his arm and knocked the ball away.
Senesi was then released, with an attractive Cody Gakpo Handbaling and Bournemouth received a free kick.
Reds Baas Arne Slot was furious with the incident, with Liverpool players also attractive.
But despite the protests Var did not intervene.
In commenting on Sky Sports, Peter Drury said: “Check is complete from the VAR, the suggestion is that he had no control over the ball [and] It bounced from his body on his other arm. “
On Co-COMS duty, Carragher replied: “That's handball. He knows exactly what he is doing, it's his reaction as a defender, but that was handball.”
Carra, 47, then added: “The information that the referee received there was not correct.”
The Premier League Match Center confirmed that the decision the no-call was in fact due to how far the incident took place.
A prem message on x read: “The call from No Red Card's referee to Senesi was checked and confirmed by VAR -with the action that is not a clear handball attack or denial of a goalscores option (Dogso), because of the distance.”
Ekitike, 23, Liverpool began to take 37 minutes in the lead … with Senesi in default.
The French striker easily struck his marker before he quietly went past Djordje Petrovic to score his first Premier League goal.
