Andrey Santos (20) keeps his cards close to his chest. The Chelsea player has spent the past one and a half season in RC Strasbourg Alsace, where he has impressed the heart of the midfield of the Ligue 1 -side and the club challenging for a place in Europe.
The assumption is that the performances of the Brazilian in France have given him a chance to return to his parent club at the end of the campaign and to fight for a position in the first team in London.
Santos, however, has been steadfast in refusing to speculate whether his future will be in France or England, and in an interview with L'équipe he told the French outlet that “nothing has been put in stone.”
“It is Chelsea management, with Strasbourg and my agents, that will decide what we will do,” he explained. “For now I am focused on the extremely important match against Olympique Lyonnais. We want to finish the season well. Then we will see. Where I am, my main goal will be to play as many matches as possible to compete for a place on the World Cup 2026.”
Strasbourg plays Lyon in a vital match for the two clubs tonight. If Strasbourg wins, they have the chance to jump their opponents in fifth place (at least until Lille OSC on Sunday evening) and to offer them a platform to challenge a Champions League place.
