‘Now we’re talking’ … Jon Jones sidesteps Tom Aspinall title unification for ‘real super-fight’

There is a heavyweight fight that has drawn the eye of Jon Jones and it is not Tom Aspinall.

We are almost 600 days that Tom Aspinall is the interim -heavyweight champion and reigning champion Jones still has to unite the title, which is currently holding the division.

Jones last defended the title on UFC 309 in November when he retired a 42-year-old Stipe Miocic in Madison Square Garden. Aspinall was present at Cageside, awaiting a super fight that might never come.

After Aspinall claimed that Jones was retired and he was the undisputed champion, Jones turned to a super fight that was spoken years ago.

Jon Jones suggests Francis Ngannou that he has heard that he is 'interested' in re -signing with UFC

On Friday Jones showed interest in fighting former UFC Heavyweight Champion Francis Ngannou.

Ngannou and Jones never crossed paths in the UFC. The super fight did not flourish when Ngannou decided to leave the UFC to become a free agent where the famous knockout artist pays days in boxing and the PFL.

“I hear that Francis Ngannou is still interested,” Jones said about the PFL heavyweight champion.

“Now we are talking. That is a really super fight. A collision of champions, not just hype.

“He held the UFC rim, I have defended mine for more than ten years. Two kings of different roads.

“Not just one legend with a mouth that is now hot,” Jones said about Aspinall.

“But two real legacies collide. That is the kind of fight that actually adds something special to my story. At least from my point of view.”

The coach of Francis Ngannou thinks he is open to UFC recovery

Ngannou for the UFC? That is easier said than done.

The former UFC champion heavyweight had a dramatic split of the UFC in 2023 and did not leave the promotion on the best conditions with Dana White.

After years apart from the UFC, coach Eric Nicksick says that he would like to see the Ngannou signed by PFL return to the Octagon.

“I think enough time has passed, I would like to see a way that they can recover and get these gates [Ngannou] Back in the UFC, “Nicksick told the Home of Fight.

“100%,” said Nicksick, when he was asked if Ngannou would be interested in negotiating with the UFC.

“I think this is more about things than ego, at least it is on the part of Francis. He wants the possibility to be paid. He does not want to be stuck in a position where he is not allowed to go if he is not allowed to do.

“He earned a lot of good money and proved that he could do it.

“Now, where does his motivation come from? It's not about money, it's about competition and the best competition is in the UFC,” Nicksick said.
