Oblak demands Madrid ‘leave referees in peace’ after ‘rigged’ claims

Goalman Jan Oblak from Atletico Madrid has demanded Real Madrid “leaves referees in peace” after Los Blancos had interviewed the integrity of Spanish officials earlier this week.

Last Saturday Madrid fell a surprise of 1-0 defeat against humble Espanyol in Laliga, a result that could attract neighbors Atletico in a point of them at the top.

The winning goal of Espanyol was scored by Carlos Romero, of which Madrid thought it should have been shown a red card for a lung from behind on Kylian Mbappe earlier in the game.

Carlo Ancelotti called that decision “inexplicable”, and Madrid then sent a letter of complaint to the Spanish football federation (RFEF) and the Spanish Council for Sport.

In the letter, the 15-way European champions made the extraordinary claim that the decisions of officials are “decorated” against them and say: “Decisions against Real Madrid have a level of manipulation and falsification of the competition that can no longer be ignored . “

Other clubs in Laliga have reportedly called for Madrid to be punished for trying to put pressure on civil servants, and Oblak – whose team is confronted against Madrid in a huge derby on Saturday – says that referees should be able to do their work.

“The best way is to leave referees in peace and in this way they can do their work at their best possible level,” Oblak told ESPN on Thursday.

“That is the most important thing for football, not just for the teams, but for everyone. It is not the referees who will decide the game.”

Laliga President Javier Tebas also focused on Madrid and said that the club “has lost their heads” and accuses them to damage the reputation of the competition.

“Real Madrid wants to harm the competition, not just the referee group,” he said during a meeting of clubs on Thursday, who refused Madrid to be present.

“They have built up a story of victimization and I think the icing was at the top of the letter they recently published.

“The problem is blown out of proportion, they have lost their heads. Football is not about Real Madrid.”

Madrid responded to their defeat in Espanyol by beating Leganes 3-2 in the quarterfinals of Copa del Rey on Wednesday. Atleti made the game of the game the last four hours earlier by Getafe 5-0 in Trouncing.
