Oblak laments lack of consistency as Atletico’s title hopes fade

Jan Oblak rested the lack of consistency of Atletico Madrid after being held up to a 1-1 draw by Espanyol.

Atleti are now six points behind Laliga leaders Barcelona after their Winless Run in the top flight of Spain that extended to three games.

Javi Puado's 71st Penalty has canceled the opener of Cesar Azpilicueta on Saturday, which means that Athleti has been in the competition since November 2022.

And keeper Oblak suggested that their title loop is now almost over, with Atleti also left the Champions League earlier this month by Rivals Real Madrid.

“Two important points have left. It is a strange moment, a difficult moment that we can't win,” he said.

“We don't have the necessary consistency to be able to fight for Laliga.”

Simeone, meanwhile, recovered the challenge of Clement Lenglet on Leandro Cabrera, which led to the penalty for Espanyol's Equalizer.

“The draw was fair,” Simeone told reporters.

“We better checked the game in the first half, we did well, we had good control over it.

“The penalty came from an isolated game and they scored the goal and the game went to another area, they had enthusiasm with their people at home to win.

“We know that there are good moments in the season, ordinary, bad, you have to know how to get through it and compete to the end.”

Atleti will look to bounce back when they host Barca in the return bone of the Copa del Rey semi-finals next week, with the first stage with 4-4.

“We have a very nice game on Wednesday and we hope to play all our energy and skills in playing a great game,” Simeone added.
