Ricardo de Burgos Bengoetxea will be the most important referee, with Pablo González Fuertes charged with the VAR.
The referee has been confirmed for the Copa del Rey Final that will take place this Saturday 26 April between Real Madrid and Barcelona. The most important referee is Ricardo de Burgos Bengoetxea, while Pablo González Fuertes will be in charge of VAR.
Soto Grado seemed to be the favorite to officiate the final a few weeks ago, but that expectation faded and Ricardo de Burgos Bengoetxea arose as the chosen officer.
This will be his first Copa del Rey final, although he has already organized a Clásico in a final. He has referred two Spanish Super Cup finals between Barcelona and Real Madrid. The first was in 2018 when the Super Cup was still played on two legs, the officer of the first stage in which Madrid Barcelona defeated 3-1. The most recent was in 2023, a final with one match, in which Barcelona defeated Real Madrid 3-1.
Ricardo de Burgos Bengoetxea has officered Barcelona 31 times in La Liga, the Copa del Rey and the Super Cup. The record is 25 victories for Barça, 1 draw and 5 losses. Since the 2018–19 season, he has not referred a COPA match for Barcelona-in particular the first stage of the quarterfinals, where Levante Barça defeated 2-1. This season he supervised three of their La Liga matches: Barça won two and lost one against Atlético Madrid.
As far as Real Madrid is concerned, he has referred them 25 times over La Liga, Copa del Rey and the Super Cup. The record is 16 wins, 4 draws and 5 losses. He last divorced Real Madrid in the Copa during the 2018–19 season, in the first stage of the Tour of 32, when Madrid Melilla defeated 4-0. This season he did not organize any of their La Liga matches, but he took the lead on their Spanish Super Cup-Halve Final, where Madrid Mallorca defeated 3-0.
