OFFICIAL: Arsenal sign Zubimendi with transfer fee exceeding £65 million

On July 6 – Arsenal officially announced the signature of the real Sociedad – midfielder Martín Zubimendi.

It has been reported that the transfer costs for the Spanish international amount to more than £ 65 million, which marks a substantial summer investment for the Gunners.

Zubimendi, 24, was a key figure for Real Sociedad last season, making 44 performances in all competitions (41 Starts) appeared. The combative midfielder, known for his defensive firmness and passing assortment, is a pillar in midfield of the Basque side since the first team breaks in 2021.

The relocation of Arsenal for Zubimendi comes after months of speculation, whereby the North London Club is challenging the competition from La Liga and Premier League rivals. The transfer costs, if confirmed above £ 65 million, would set a new club record for a defensive midfielder, who surpassed the £ 50 million that will be spent on Thomas Peny in 2020.

The Spain International is expected to strengthen the midfield options of Mikel Arteta and offer coverage and competition for Declan Rice and Kai Havertz. Zubimendi's contract with Arsenal is reportedly set to run until 2030, with the club having an option for another year.
