Barcelona had a lot of uncertainty on Saturday in the run -up to their opening La Liga match against Mallorca, so it was not known whether Hansi Flick will be able to count on summer signs Joan Garcia and Marcus Rashford for the trip to Son Moix.
Although it has released a considerable part of the salary space with the many departure that happened this summer, it has not been enough. But with Marc-Andre ter Stegen, it has now been officially registered due to a long-term injury, it has opened the door for Barcelona to at least register that their starting goalkeeper will be for the 2025-26 season.
And despite countless doubts in the last 24/48 hours, Barcelona has managed to get it done. The La Liga website now shows that Garcia has been registered, which means that the 24-year-old Saturday night is in line to start against Mallorca.
However, Rashford still has to be registered, with less than 12 hours to go until the kick-off at Son Moix-Dit, despite the fact that Barcelona president Joan Laporta has taken for granted that the loan of Manchester United will be able to play against Mallorca if he is calculated by Flick.
Given that Robert Lewandowski will be out in the coming weeks due to an injury, Barcelona only has Ferran Torres and Rashford as possible striker options. The first will almost certainly start against Mallorca, but having England's international bank can make a huge difference against one side that will make things difficult for the ruling La Liga champions.
The race is because Rashford is registered, but at least Barcelona has succeeded in getting Garcia over the line – and they will be very satisfied with that.
