Emiliano Buendia will spend the second half of the 2024-25 season on loan with Bayer Leverkusen after his relocation of Aston Villa was completed on Wednesday.
Beendia, who made the switch to Villa in 2021 from Norwich City, Bolsters Xabi Alonso's attacking ranks in their search to retain their Bundesliga crown.
The Argentinian has made 20 performances this season in all competitions under Unai Emery, although only four of these have come from the start for the Villans.
The playing time of Buendia in Villa Park is recently limited after stopping a front intersection of Cruciate Ligament (ACL) on the eve of the Premier League season 2023-24.
The deal also sees the 28-year-old sign a contract extension, in which Villa also announces that younger Louie Barry has signed new conditions before he is on loan to Hull City.
“The Bundesliga is very attractive for me,” said Buendia in a statement on the official website of the club.
“Bayer Leverkusen are the title defender and in my opinion one of the best and most interesting teams in Europe … It is a great team that plays attractive football.
Leverkusen are in action in the Champions League on Wednesday, hoping to secure a place in the top eight when they are confronted with Sparta Prague in the Bayara.
Buendia's first taste of life under Alonso could come this weekend, with Leverkusen, who are second in the Bundesliga and takes on this Sunday against Hoffenheim.
