OFFICIAL: Everton sack manager Dyche just 3 hours BEFORE play in the FA Cup

Everton have sacked manager Sean Dyche after just one win from their last eleven games, leaving the team one point above the Premier League relegation zone.

Leighton Baines and Seamus Coleman will take charge in the FA Cup third round against Peterborough on Thursday evening.

The Toffees are sixteenth in the Premier League and did not score once on target during the 1-0 defeat against Bournemouth on Saturday. It is their eighth league defeat of the season and they have failed to score in eight of their last ten games.

Dyche was appointed Everton boss in January 2023 and steered the club to Premier League survival with a final-day victory over the Cherries.

The 53-year-old kept Everton in the top flight last season despite the team having eight points deducted from their total due to two separate breaches of the Premier League's Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSR).

'Club in uncertainty after slow response to weekend results'

Sky Sports News' Vinny O'Connor at Goodison Park:

“We knew Everton's new owners were assessing the situation after the defeat to Bournemouth last weekend. We knew they had spoken to other potential replacements, particularly Graham Potter.

“Dyche still had until the summer on his contract and the ideal scenario was that with a safe pair of hands he could get through the season, maintain their Premier League status and then reassess in the summer.

“But the recent results, one win in 11 league games and not scoring in eight of them, means they have decided the only way to turn things around is with a new manager.

“The club is in uncertainty anyway as after the weekend result against Bournemouth the owners were not quick to support Sean Dyche or make a decision on his future.

“It allowed West Ham to get ahead of them and get a deal attractive enough for Graham Potter to sign for them.

“Now Everton's quest begins again. We know there was unrest among the Evertonians – the style of play, the lack of goals, the output of their striker, with (Dominic) Calvert-Lewin scoring just two goals and fifteen without scoring.

“We've had the strange situation here where the opposition manager has lost his job. Remember when David Moyes came back to Man Utd and lost his job shortly afterwards?

“Brendan Rodgers lost his job as Liverpool manager not long after a Merseyside derby, but I can't remember a manager losing his job so close to kick-off.

“It has taken a little longer since the weekend and that defeat against Bournemouth. Everton fans would have liked to see action taken sooner, and some form of decisiveness.”

Everton's sad statistics: a bad attack set off alarm bells

Everton's biggest problem this season has been scoring, and that has cost Dyche his job.

Everton have the second-lowest total of goals scored in the Premier League this season, with a total of fifteen only more than that of rock bottom Southampton.

Their pass rate is under seven percent, but it's not just the finishing that's the problem. They also score low because of the number of shots they create and the quality of chances they create.

These problems have become especially apparent over the past two months, with Everton having scored just once from open play since the start of November. Furthermore, they failed to score in eight of their ten Premier League matches in that time.

In total, they have failed to score in 11 of their 19 games this season, the worst record in the division.

Their defeat at Bournemouth was the second time this season that they have failed to even get a shot on target – again the worst record in the Premier League.

Everton's points return so far this season – with just three wins from 19 games – is comparable to the starts made by his predecessors Rafa Benitez and Frank Lampard in the 2021/22 and 2022/23 seasons, both of which were completed around the clock last year dismissed. this phase of the campaign. Dyche has now joined them in terminating his deal.
