OFFICIAL: Today's Merseyside derby between Everton and Liverpool at Goodison Park has been postponed due to adverse weather conditions.
Saturday's Premier League match between Everton and Liverpool has been canceled due to safety reasons.
The decision follows the massive disruption caused by Storm Darragh. An orange weather warning was issued for Merseyside on Saturday morning.
The decision to postpone the match, the last Premier League Merseyside derby to take place at Goodison Park, was taken by the authorities and not the two clubs.
A statement from Everton read: “Today's Merseyside derby at Goodison Park has been postponed due to adverse weather conditions.”
The match is the first in the Premier League to be postponed due to Storm Darragh, with the Championship matches between Cardiff City and Watford, and Plymouth Argyle and Oxford United both canceled on Friday.
Barring an FA Cup encounter, the postponed match will be the last Merseyside derby to take place at Goodison Park as Everton prepare to move to their new Bradley-Moore Dock stadium next season.
Liverpool are at the top of the Premier League after winning eleven of their first fourteen top-flight games under Arne Slot. They lead second-placed Chelsea and third-placed Arsenal by seven points, but that lead could be cut to four by the end of the weekend if Enzo Maresca's side beat Tottenham Hotspur or Mikel Arteta's win at Fulham .
When is the rescheduled match between Everton and Liverpool?
With the news only just breaking, details about the new date and time of this highly anticipated game have yet to be released. An already crowded December list is about to be tightened even further.
This article will be updated as information becomes available.
