OFFICIAL: Former Reds star Jordan Henderson leaves Ajax and becomes free agent

Jordan Henderson leaves Ajax. The club has collaborated with the player's request to terminate the current employment contract. The Englishman's contract with Ajax ran until June 30, 2026, but now ends immediately.

Ajax statement:

Henderson was born on June 17, 1990 in Sunderland. In January 2024, the former midfielder of Sunderland and Liverpool joined Ajax on a free transfer of Al-Etifaq in Saudi Arabia. The 84-way England International made 57 official performances for the first team of Ajax.

Alex Kroes: “Jordan was a real captain for us, both on and off the field. An international top player who, thanks to his mentality and leadership qualities, made an important contribution to our qualification for the UEFA Champions League and further development of Ajax's Elite Sportcultuur. Jordan has intended a lot for Ajax.

Henderson: “I would like to express my enormous gratitude to anyone associated with Ajax because he has given me the opportunity to represent this incredible attitude in recent years. It was an honor to play for this club. To have the privilege that it would come even more.

“My family and I felt so welcome, not only by the club, but also in the beautiful city of Amsterdam. We will always be grateful for that. Because of the tragic events of last week, and the devastating loss of my former teammate Diogo Jota and his brother André Silva, it is not good to say or do.
