OFFICIAL: Kolo Toure permanently appointed to first team backroom staff

Manchester City is pleased to attach the permanent appointment of Kolo Toure to the back room staff of Pep Guardiola.

After performing the role of First Team Assistant Coach during the FIFA Club World Cup campaign of the club this summer, the 44-year-old will remain in position full-time.

It comes after the Ivorian – who helped both Arsenal and City for Premier League success during an illustrious play career – enjoyed a hugely successful season that served as an assistant head coach with the last term of the city under the age of 18.

Working together with lead coach Oliver Reiss, the former ivory coast defender helped the Stadsjongeren to go to the Premier League Under-18 North Title, our under 18 years now nowhere with Aston Villa in the national final.

In addition to Reiss, Toure also moved the young blues to the FA Youth Cup final before we were brought to the trophy by Villa.

Toure also has extensive coaching experience away from City, after initially working with the Ivory Coast National Setup before they spend time in both Glasgow Celtic and Leicester City as part of the Brendan Rodgers coaching team.

Before he came to the City Academy Coaching setup, Kolo also put on a short spell at Wigan Athletic.

Respond to Toure's appointment as assistant coach of the first team, said director of Football Hugo Viana: “We are delighted to add Kolo permanently to our first team coaching staff.

“Not only does he bring his extremely precious experience at the elite level of football, but he also has a deep bond with Manchester City and a deep knowledge of the club.

“We are also very impressed by his work and success with our under-18s, and by adding him permanently to our senior staff, this will only strengthen the transition for players in our academy to the first team.

“As we saw this summer with Pep Guardiola, Pep Libnders and James French this summer, his enormous personality of optimism and positivity is enormously contagious and we are already looking forward to his work.”

Everyone in Manchester City wishes Kolo good luck in his new role.
