Sporting CP has confirmed the signing of Colombian attacker Luis Suárez on a contract that runs until 2030, complete with a release clause of € 80 million.
Club Offcical Statement
Luís Suárez is the latest signing of Sporting Clube de Portugal. On 27 the attacker arrives in Alvalade after a fantastic season with UD Almería, where he scored 31 goals and delivered eight assists in 2024/2025.
In his first statements to the club's media, the Colombian – with a contract until 2030 and a release clause of 80 million euros – admitted that signing for sporting CP “is the biggest challenge” of his life.
“I have reached the pinnacle of my career. I would like to give a positive response to the leaders who trusted me and the fans who welcomed me so much. I want to show that I have what is needed to be here,” he started.
A resident of Santa Marta, Colombia, Suárez started his career at Itagüí Leones FC and played in various European championships before setting up in Spanish football. Now he exchanges South Spain for Lisbon, where he bears the number 97, a tribute to his year of birth.
“I love a new beginning, different chapters in my career. I wore number 9, but now at Sporting CP I want to raise number 97 to the highest level,” he explained.
However, the connection with the club's symbol is not recently: the Colombian has tattooed a lion on its left arm and this detail made the choice even more special.
“I identify with the animal because of its personality and character, and the tenacity with which it protects his herd. When I received the offer of Sporting CP, I did not hesitate because everything seemed connected,” he said enthusiastically and added that “everyone knows the size of the club.”
“It is a great team, not only in Portugal, but also at European and global level, and it has grown even more in recent years. This makes sporty CP not only attractive for the players, but also for fans around the world,” he emphasized, not the expectations he knows he is wearing with him.
“Ik wil hier slagen, dingen goed doen en vooral de doelstellingen van de club bereiken, wat het belangrijkste is. Ik wil het team helpen door doelen te scoren, want daarom hebben ze me aangenomen, en door assists te geven, games te winnen, titels te winnen. Dat is wat ik in mijn carrière mis: belangrijke trofeeën winnen. Ik geloof dat we bij Sporting CP kunnen bereiken, en dat, het meest van de mooie dingen zou zijn, het meest mooie ding zou zijn.
And there are already Leonine references that serve as a motivation. “I want to leave my mark, that Colombian brand that has already marked sport fans in the past. In my position I know that Téo [Gutierrez] and Frey [Montero] Are very popular here and I also want to write history. “
Defining himself as “a strong, agile ahead, always with his eyes on the goal and the goal, which gives everything to not only help his teammates with attack, but also in defensive work when needed,” the Leonino reinforcement does not deny his ambition to re -represent his country.
“Sporting CP is a world -class club, and I believe I can be a huge help for the team, which can open doors for the Colombian national team again,” he said.
However, adjusting to Lisbon has been fast and successful. “The fans, the club and my teammates make these first few days incredible. My family and I are very happy to be here, and I hope this translates on the field,” he said, and emphasizes that Bores's Trust and the welcome of the team are crucial for this process.
“The manager gave me full confidence and peace of mind of the first contact, and he emphasized that the most important thing is to gradually adapt. And I also have nothing but praise for my colleagues: they gave me a part of the group from the very first moment. That is very important to me, and I am very grateful for all.”
During closing, Luis Suárez has a strong dedication to all sporting fans. “I came to devour the world, and I believe we have a great team with your support that can achieve all its goals.”
