OFFICIAL: Man City extends Haaland's contract until 2034

Erling Haaland has signed a new ten-year contract with Manchester City, keeping him at the Club until the summer of 2034.

One of the best strikers in the world, the 24-year-old has had an extraordinary first two and a half seasons since joining the club from Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2022.

In his first season at the Etihad, the Norway international proved to be one of the key catalysts in City's march to a historic treble in the Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League.

Along the way, the forward scored an incredible 52 goals in all competitions – the most ever by a Premier League player – and plundered a record total of 36 league goals, with Haaland also winning the Premier League's Golden Boot.

A host of prestigious individual awards also came his way, including the PFA Player of the Year award, the Premier League Player of the Year and the Young Player of the Year awards, with Haaland also named Player of the Year of the Football Writers' Association.

Haaland then followed that record-breaking first season at City by making an equally seismic impact last season as City made even more history by becoming the first England men's team to win four consecutive top-flight titles.

Despite being sidelined for almost two months due to injury, Erling scored an impressive 38 goals from 45 appearances (including 27 in the Premier League), earning him a second consecutive Gods Boot.

The Norwegian has once again been in productive form during the 2024/25 season. He has scored 16 goals in just 21 Premier League appearances so far, scoring 21 in all competitions out of 28 games so far.

He is already fifteenth on the club's list of all-time top scorers.

Reflecting on his new contract, Haaland said: “I am very happy to have signed my new contract and can look forward to spending even more time at this great Club.

“Manchester City is a special club, full of fantastic people with great supporters and it's the kind of environment that helps get the best out of everyone.

“I would also like to thank Pep, his coaching staff, my teammates and everyone at the Club as they have all helped me so much over the years. They made it a special place and now I am City, whatever happens.

“I want to continue to develop, continue to work to get better and do my best to help us achieve more success in the future.”

City's director of football Txiki Begiristain added: “Everyone at the club is absolutely delighted that Erling has signed his new contract. The fact that he has been signed for so long shows our commitment to him as a player and his love for this club.

“He has already made an incredible impact in his time here and his amazing numbers and records speak for themselves.

But in addition to his exceptional natural talent and abilities, Erling's dedication, professionalism, humility and desire to keep getting better sum up what we are all trying to achieve at Manchester City.

“He is one of the best strikers in world football, but Erling is still very young and will only improve under Pep and his coaching team. If he works hard, and I'm sure he will, he will create an incredible legacy at this football club.

“Now he can focus on his game and continue to play a big role in helping us achieve even more success.”

“Everyone at City is delighted with the news and we all wish Erling the best of luck for the rest of his time here.”

Within the multitude of outstanding talents who have lit up the Premier League since its inception more than 33 years ago, perhaps no one has had a more seismic and immediate impact than Erling Haaland.

From the moment Erling made the move from Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2022, it was clear that City had acquired a rare and special talent.

However, few could have predicted how the striker would go on to illuminate the world's most competitive league.

Whatever yardstick you use to measure his impact, the 24-year-old Norwegian's contribution to City's success in recent seasons is on a scale never before seen in this country.

The striker had made the move from Borussia Dortmund to the Etihad, already armed with a formidable reputation thanks to his stellar performances in the Bundesliga and before that with Austrian side RB Salzburg and Molde in his native Norway.

Moreover, Haaland had arrived in Manchester with a special family connection to the Club. Father Alfie was himself a City player who we remember fondly from the early 2000s. Erling was also famously pictured wearing a City shirt as a young boy.

But no one could have predicted the extraordinary impact Haaland would immediately have on City in particular and on English football in general.

During his first season at the Etihad, the boy from Byrne rewrote the record books in countless astonishing ways.

A Premier League debut with two goals at West Ham set the stage for a season like no other – both individually and collectively – as Pep Guardiola's side stormed to an era-defining Treble.

Haaland's remarkable goals have been the focus of the 2022/2023 season for years.

The statistics alone made for dizzying reading.

Haaland's tally of 52 goals in all competitions represented the most ever scored by a Premier League player.

On the way to achieving that astonishing milestone, Erling also created another piece of remarkable history, with his total of 36 goals also breaking the record previously held by Andrew Cole and Alan Shearer for most Premier League goals in a single season .

Meanwhile, Erling has written another unique chapter in Manchester City history, a five-goal special during the 7-0 Champions League last-16 second-leg win over RB Leipzig, scoring the most goals in one season for the Club, completely revising the previous matches. number of 38 achieved by Tommy Johnstone – a record that has stood the test of time since the 1928/29 campaign.

The forward also plundered six hat-tricks in all competitions – as many as every other Premier League player combined – with Haaland also notching trebles in three consecutive Etihad league games against Crystal Palace, Nottingham Forest and Manchester United in the autumn of 2022. which used to be a top flight.

It was a captivating, era-defining campaign that left fans and pundits alike running out of superlatives to describe Haaland's astonishing impact.

The series of goals was also memorable. From predatory close-range finishes to towering headers, from acrobatic, balletic leaps where Haaland seemed to defy the laws of gravity to thunderous shots and lunging runs, his repertoire was simply extraordinary.

Equally striking was the way Haaland went about his record-breaking business.

For a player with the eyes of the world on him week in and week out, Erling played with a smile on his face, the joy of playing football for his beloved City for all to see.

Allied to that freedom of expression, he also showed a relentless hunger and drive to constantly try to improve and learn – the foundations of Pep Guardiola's approach to football.

Individual accolades also quickly followed after his huge contribution to City's best ever season.

In addition to a plethora of individual awards, Haaland was named PFA Player of the Year, the Football Writers' Association Player of the Year – Erling secured more than 80 percent of the votes cast – and was hailed as both the Premier League Player of the Year as the Premier League Player of the Year. the Year and Young Player of the Year.

The obvious question after all those Herculean feats was simple: “How on earth do you follow that?”

Haaland's response was – as always – to let his football speak for itself in the most eloquent way possible and pick up where he left off… by scoring many more goals.

All told, Erling scored an impressive 38 goals from 45 appearances last season – 27 of which came in the Premier League alone – a feat that earned him a second consecutive Golden Boot award.

It would have been even more if he hadn't had a winter break of almost two months due to a stress reaction in his foot.

Haaland's efforts proved instrumental in helping Guardiola's side to an unprecedented fourth consecutive Premier League title – the first time an England men's side had achieved such a phenomenal performance.

Erling also helped City secure the UEFA Super Cup last August, although a foot injury in mid-winter unfortunately left him unable to feature in our FIFA Club World Cup victory in Saudi Arabia in late 2023.

Along the way, Haaland also became the fastest player in Premier League history to score 50 goals, as well as the youngest and fastest to reach the total of 40 goals in the UEFA Champions League.

More individual awards followed before 2023, with Erling receiving the prestigious 2023 Gerd Muller Trophy at that year's Ballon d'Or awards, before also being named the 2023 BBC Sports Personality World Star of the Year.

But once again Erling did his best to remind everyone that it was about the collective and not the individual.

Fit and refreshed after a rare long summer break in 2024, Haaland came roaring out of the blocks again as soon as the 2024/25 season got underway, claiming back-to-back hat-tricks against Ipswich and West Ham before August was out.

Erling then became just the 19th player to score a century of goals for City when he scored in the 2-2 draw against Arsenal in September.

And, more recently, his brace in our 4-1 home win over West Ham in what was City's first game of 2025 saw him become the third highest Premier League scorer in Etihad history, with the double taking his total to a scored an incredible 46 goals on his own field. lawn of only 44 performances.

Now, in the wake of his new contract, Erling is set to bring more joy and fun to the City faithful for the rest of this season and beyond.
