Atlético de Madrid and Atalanta have reached an agreement for the transfer of the young Italian full-back, which has signed a five-year contract.
Atlético de Madrid and Atalanta have reached an agreement for the transfer of Matteo Ruggeri. The 22-year-old Italian left back has signed for our club until 30 June 2030.
Ruggeri, born on July 11, 2002 in San Giovanni Bianco, Lombardy, joined Atalanta's Youth Academy at the age of nine and made his first team debut as a 18-year-old on November 3, 2020 in a Champions League match against Liverpool.
A left back with a good cross and great endurance, he spent the 2021/22 season on loan in Salernitana. He returned to Atalanta the next campaign and established himself as an important part of the Gian Piero Gasperini team.
After making 15 performances during the 2022/23 season, he made his breakthrough the following year and played 48 games in all games. In the 2023/24 campaign he was selected for the UEFA Europa League team of the season, which he won alongside Juan Musso, who will again be his teammate at Athleti.
As an international youth levels for Italy, he was called to the senior Azzurri team in March 2025 for the quarter-final match of the Nations League against Germany.
