Sunderland AFC is pleased to announce the arrival of Nordi Mukiele, depending on international approval.
The defender has signed a four-year contract in the Stadium of Het Licht after the start of the Premier League season 2025-26.
Covered by France, Mukiele moves to Wearside from Paris Saint-Germain for an unknown fee, which were spent on loan last season in Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga.
Before his time in the Parc des Princes, the 27-year-old Stade Lavallois, Montpellier HSC and RB Leipzig represented.
The enormous experience of Mukiele in Europe's Elite competitions has seen him so far more than 300 performances, including 115 in the Bundesliga, 85 in Ligue 1 and 35 in the UEFA Champions League.
After he signed up with Wearside, he said: “It's a new challenge and I am happy to be here. I saw the atmosphere of the stadium, and this is something that I really like. The fans are very important in football, and especially in Sunderland. I came here to fight for them.
Mukiele started his professional career at Paris FC before moving to Laval and broke into the senior team of Les Tango at the age of 17.
The defender moved to Montpellier in 2017 and made 50 performances during an 18-month spell in the Stade de la Mosson, who ended when he came to RB Leipzig.
Mukiele enjoyed an excellent four seasons in the Red Bull Arena, where he made more than 100 performances and won the DFB-Pokal in 2022.
He joined Paris Saint-Germain and won back-to-back Ligue 1 titles in 2023 and 2024 in addition to the 2024 Coupe de France and two Trofée des Champions-Voordat he then ruled Bundesliga champion Bayer Leverkusen last summer.
In addition to colleague -summer arrival Granit Xhaka, Mukiele was on loan during his time in the Bayarena, where he made 24 performances in domestic and European competitions.
Kristjaan Speakman added: “Nordi has rare athletic qualities that are perfect for our team in the Premier League. Moreover, he has tactical versatility as a right -wing back and central – for these reasons we were an acquisition to improve our group. We are delighted to complete this deal.”
The 27-year-old is wearing the number 20 shirt.
