Premier League to bring in a semi-automated offside technology on 12 April after live operation in FA Cup

The Premier League will introduce semi-automated offside technology on Saturday 12 April (Round 32 competition). This follows non-live tests in the Premier League and live operation in the FA Cup this season.

Semi-automated offside technology automates important elements of the offside decision process to support the video assistant referee (VAR).

It offers a more efficient placement of the virtual outdoor game line, using optical players training and generates virtual images to guarantee an improved in the stadium and broadcast experience for fans.

The technology maintains the integrity of the process, while the speed, efficiency and consistency of offside decision is improved.

The Premier League has worked in collaboration with PGMOL and sports data and technology company Genius Sports to develop the new semi-automated offside technology system.
