OFFICIAL: Real Madrid appeal for Vinicius ban denied after Valencia red card

The Real Madrid star will miss the next two La Liga matches due to the suspension he received at the Mestalla after hitting Dimitrievski.

The Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) Appeals Committee has agreed to dismiss Real Madrid's appeal against the two-match suspension of their Brazilian striker Vinicius, upholding the same.

Vinicius was shown a red card for pushing Valencia goalkeeper Stole Dimitrievski in the face, for which he was dismissed after a VAR review. Real Madrid appealed on the grounds that an error had been made in that the referee had not shown the full chain of events leading to his red card, which should invalidate the dismissal, and his match report did not accurately reflect the action. But the appeals committee responded that other interpretations of events did not invalidate the referee's opinion and that the action received the appropriate penalty.

Relevo said they did not consider racial abuse as a mitigating factor, nor did they consider a reduction, as two matches was the minimum ban for his actions and therefore could not be reduced. Los Blancos face Celta Vigo in the Copa del Rey on Thursday evening and Vinicius will be available for both that match and their Champions League clash against RB Salzburg next week. He will be ruled out for their Liga matches at home to Las Palmas on Sunday and away to Real Valladolid the following weekend.
