OFFICIAL: Saúl Ñíguez joins Flamengo from Atlético de Madrid

International reinforcement is coming to Mengão! It is Saul ñígoz, a Spanish midfielder who belonged to Atlético de Madrid and was on loan to Seville. He signed a contract with Flamengo until December 2028 and arrives to help the red-black team with the disputes of the Brazilian championship, Libertadores and Copa do Brasil. The new signing carries the number 8 shirt.

Born in Elche, Spain, Saúl was unveiled in Atlético de Madrid himself, one of the big names in the Simeone era. Led to Chelsea in the 2021/22 season, he won the Club World Cup with the blues and then returned to the Spanish team. In July last year the midfielder was borrowed from Seville.

At Mengão, Saúl will again meet an old teammate. The Spaniard played four seasons together with Filipe Luís in Atlético de Madrid. The two won the Europa League (2011/12 and 2017/18), European Super Cup (2012) and Copa del Rey (2012/13) titles.
