Sonny won the FIFA Puskas Award in 2020 for an extraordinary solo goal against Burnley, in which he saw the length of the field drip before he found the net. Both a scorer of great goals and a great goal scorer, he added to his personal distinctions in 2021/22, and received the Premier League Golden Boot for his 23-target-return in the division.
During his time at the club, Sonny also became the highest scoring Asian player in the Premier League history and, in addition to leading South Korea for Success Success in 2018, 'Best football player in Asia' was' nine times named 'best football player'.
Sonny's greatest achievement in our colors came in May 2025, when he led the club to UEFA Europa League Glory in Bilbao. By doing this, he wrote his name in Spurs Folklore and became one of the 13 captains in our history to lift a large trophy.
Chairman, Daniel Levy, said: “Sonny is one of the biggest players ever the famous LilyWhite shirt wearing and he has been a pleasure to pay attention in the past decade. Not only is he a wonderfully gifted football player, but he is also an incredible person who touched hearts in the whole club and the whole world.
“The Europa League triumph in Bilbao was a really magical moment in the history of the club and Sonny lifting the trophy is a perfect sustainable memory from his fantastic decade in Tottenham Hotspur.
“Sonny has given so much to this club, both on and next to the field, and we are grateful for it forever. We wish him the very best for the future, and he will always be welcome in the club as a beloved and beloved member of our Spurs family.”
