OFFICIAL: West Ham United sign Kyle Walker-Peters on a free transfer

West Ham United is delighted to announce the signing of the international defender of England Kyle Walker-Peters.

The versatile full-back, which has two senior caps for his country, joins the hammers on a three-year contract after his departure from Southampton.

The 28-year-old, who is comfortable on either side of the field, has so far made nearly 150 Premier League performances in his career and will add quality and depth to head coach Graham Potter's team.

Walker-Peters, who will wear the NO2 shirt, looks forward to connecting with his new teammates, to work in the preseason and to pull the famous Claret and Blue for the first time.

“I'm really excited,” he said. “It feels like it has come for a long time – I am linked to a move to the club in the past – and I'm just happy to be here.

“I spoke with Graham Potter and he was a large, a large part of me who made the decision. I have always liked his style as a coach, and I think it will suit me well.

“He spoke about the family feeling at the club, and that's what I am talking about. I would like to think that I will be a good fit for West Ham United.

“I like to play with intensity, give everything in every game and I want to try to achieve special things here. Every team wants to win trophies and West Ham has that ambition. From speaking to Graham, he wants to create something special, and hopefully I can be part of it.”

Head Coach Potter has long admired the game of Walker-Peters and enjoys the chance to work with him.

“We are very happy that Kyle has agreed to participate with us,” said Potter. “He is a player I have always thought of a lot and I am impressed by when he has confronted one of my teams.

“He has a really good pedigree, a top professional who has settled as a respected Premier League player and still has his best years for him.

“He will bring high quality competition to the team, and a good character and personality to the dressing room. I am really looking forward to working with Kyle, and I think he will be a great addition to the football club.”

Walker-Peters, born in Edmonton, North London, in April 1997, joined the local club Tottenham Hotspur as a schoolboy. In 2017 he won the FIFA U20 World Cup with England and made his Premier League debut for Spurs.

After appearing in the UEFA Champions League in 2018/19, Walker-Peters joined Southampton in January 2020, and made the transfer that summer permanent and was detained in the starting line-up of the Saints for the next five seasons.

Walker-Peters played in a full-back position, or as a wing-back, played for Southampton more than 200 times, so that the club was helped to recover promotion to the Premier League via the EFL Championship Play-Offs in 2024.

His form in St Mary's stage caught the attention of Gareth Southgate, who gave him his senior English debut in March 2022 in a friendly international victory over Switzerland in Wembley.

Earlier, Walker-Peters had been a fixture for England at age group level, won more than 40 caps between U18s and U21s and started the victory of the Young Lions on Venezuela in the FIFA U20 World Cup final 2017.

Now he will return to his home town and continue his career in London Stadium.

Everyone at West Ham United would like to welcome Kyle and his family to the club and wish him every success for his career in Claret and Blue.
