Oleksandr Usyk sends final message to Tyson Fury after shock weigh-in result
Undefeated Ukrainian hero Oleksandr Usyk has officially weighed in at 226 pounds for his upcoming rematch with “The Gypsy King,” the highest weight he has ever reached since moving up to the Blue Ribbon division.
- Tyson Fury 2 (2024) – 226 lbs
- Tyson Fury 1 (2024) – 223.5 pounds
- Daniel Dubois (2023) – 220.9 pounds
- Anthony Joshua 2 (2022) – 221.6 pounds
- Anthony Joshua 1 (2021) – 221.0 pounds
- Derek Chisora (2020) – 217.0 pounds
- Chazz Witherspoon (2019) – £215.0
Despite staring at each other for a whopping 11 minutes after yesterday's press conference, it seemed like everyone involved wanted to keep tonight's show moving.
After Usyk weighed in, the pair stood awkwardly next to each other onstage for a brief photo opportunity (barely a confrontation this time) before sending their respective final messages.
The Ukrainian said he felt 'nothing' less than 24 hours before the biggest fight of his professional career, and when asked how he stays so relaxed, he simply thanked those around him.
[None of this gets to you, how?] “Because my angel helps me, my god Jesus helps me, my family and my team, my wife, help me even more.”
Still, Usyk's final message left more than a few wry smiles on stage, when asked who this fight will be dedicated to, 'The Cat' simply grinned and teased, “I'll talk to you tomorrow.”
Oleksandr Usyk will be around 25kg lighter than Tyson Fury tomorrow night, although there is an argument that these figures are off by around 3-8kg given the weight of the clothes.
In reality, Usyk could be 100 pounds lighter and you would still see no change in his behavior, as he has repeatedly stated during fight week: “If size mattered, the elephant would be the king of the animal. [kingdom].”
While Oleksandr Usyk has only increased his weight slightly (again, plus/minus clothes), Tyson Fury has surprised the boxing world by getting to 281 pounds.
That's about 4 pounds more than he was in the rematch against Deontay Wilder, and about 20 pounds more than he weighed in his first showdown with Usyk.
Fury left the stage before the broadcast team could have one final conversation, though “The Gypsy King” reportedly said a single word: “War.”
War. Rivalry. Legacy… The second chapter of this incredible match will be written in stone live from the Kingdom Arena in Saudi Arabia tomorrow night.
