Michael Olise stunned fans – and his Bayern Munich teammates – with a sumptuous solo goal to hand the Bundesliga giants' Champions League victory against Shakhtar Donetsk on Tuesday night.
The former Crystal Palace star has had a great start in Germany since moving from South London ahead of the 2024/2025 season.
The 22-year-old has now scored nine times and provided a further seven assists in all competitions, but his latest appearance on the scoresheet could prove to be his best yet.
Facing the Ukrainian team on neutral ground in Gelsenkirchen, there was no need for heroics as Bayern raced to a commanding lead against Marino Pusic's side.
But there was no loss of class from the winger two minutes into stoppage time as he added to Bayern's lead on an emphatic night for Vincent Kompany's players.
Olise collected the ball halfway through Shakhtar's half and deftly moved through the groups of players in the orange shirt into the penalty area.
Instead of asking his teammates for help, the former Chelsea youth player continued his run to the left side of the penalty area before sending a sharp shot straight past a hapless Dmytro Riznyk.
Such was Olise's form as teammates on the sidelines, including veteran German star Thomas Müller, stood up to applaud the performance.
Olise's teammate Konrad Laimer even went so far as to describe him as untouchable with a funny comparison after the final whistle.
“It felt like he dribbled through 10 players,” Laimer said. “It was like Mario Kart, when you get a star and no one touches you.”
The win has boosted Bayern's reputation in the league stage, moving them into the final automatic qualification spot of eighth with just one matchday to play.
But earlier in the evening the team found themselves on the back foot after Kevin scored for Shakhtar inside the opening five minutes.
However, it only took six minutes for the visitors to find the equalizer through Laimer.
Muller and Jamal Musiala also got on the scoresheet, with Olise claiming his first via a penalty in the 70th minute earlier in the evening.
Unsurprisingly, the France international was later named Man of the Match for his performance in Gelsenkirchen.
“We conceded an early goal but reacted quickly and scored the equalizer,” he told reporters at full-time. “Then we continued with the game plan and we were rewarded.
“We are happy and will keep moving from game to game.”
