Eintracht Frankfurt has learned that Manchester City now wants to sign Omar Marmoush immediately.
The German club are demanding around £67 million (€80 million) for the 25-year-old.
There is no release clause for the forward and offers significantly lower than those expected to be rejected by the Bundesliga club, who sit third in the German top flight.
The City and Marmoush camp considers a transfer fee of 42 to 50 million euros more realistic.
No negotiations have yet taken place between the clubs.
Marmoush, who can operate in the front three, has scored 13 goals in the Bundesliga so far this season, with only Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane scoring more.
He has scored 18 goals in all competitions this season and is second only to Liverpool striker Mohamed Salah for goals scored in Europe's top five competitions this season.
City approaches Palmeiras about deal with Vitor Reis
Meanwhile, Manchester City have approached Palmeiras about a deal for Vitor Reis.
Interest is in the early stages, but City are keen to sign the talented 18-year-old centre-back, who is under contract with the Brazilian club until 2028.
The defender played 22 games for Palmeiras last season, scoring two goals.
He also captained the Brazilian U17 team at the 2023 U17 World Cup.
Travel 'not yet Premier League ready'
South American football expert Tim Vickery speaks about Vitor Reis in Sky Sports News' Transfer Talk:
“Palmeiras are competing in the Club World Cup and they really want to keep hold of this centre-back, who turns 19 next week.
“I don't think he's anywhere close to Premier League ready at the moment. He's got class but he needs to supplement physically.
“Palmeiras has produced a lot of good players recently, most of them strikers.
“If you were to put him in the Premier League now, he would really be bullied. So maybe it is in everyone's interest that he stays in Brazilian football a little longer.”
“But Palmeiras is reluctant to sell before the Club World Cup.”
