Onana could be DROPPED by Man Utd for Newcastle clash after Lyon disasterclass

Ruben Amorim is considering removing Andre Onana from the shooting line for Sunday's trip to Newcastle.

The Manchester United No1 had a difficult week after he was initially involved in a Word War with former Red Devils -midfielder Nemanja Matic.

He then had a nightmare match at the Groupama Stadium while he blundered for both Lyon goals in the 2-2 draw.

Onana was supposed to feel empty after the game – although Amorim said he had not spoken with his keeper.

His teammates then came around him and repeated the manager's claims that nobody blames the keeper.

Joshua Zirkzee – who scored United's second goal in Lyon – was in the wrong end of a terrible test through the hands of supporters against the tone in January.

Asked for Onana he said: “We are one team – so we are not going to take anyone with us for making mistakes. That is ridiculous.”

Amorim was planning to make changes for the game in St James' Park – which made the second stage against Lyon's priority.

And one of them could pull onana out and replace it with Understudy Altay Bayindir.

Asked if he would make changes for the trip to Tyneside, Amorim said: “Sometimes winning games is the best way to prepare for the next one.

“But of course I will be careful with some players, but again, we have to be competitive.

“We will make this evaluation with all the staff and all the data we have.

“Then, because we already know the players, we will try to protect those who will be difficult to make many games.”

But several United Stars gave Matic – who said onana “one of the worst keepers in the history of United was” before Kick – off – a whole series of gifts on Thursday evening.

In the meantime, United's legendary former keeper Peter Schmeichel said: “There are so many problems for Ruben Amorim to find out.

“I would feel very uncomfortable to point to one player, but it's not great to look at.

“You never feel safe because you always feel that the other team will come back.”
