Onana gifts Viktoria Plzen opening goal with ‘terrible pass’

Man United star Andre Onana was caught out again on Thursday evening after gifting Viktoria Plzen a goal during their Europa League match.

Two minutes into the second half, the Red Devils goalkeeper tried to play from the back, only to see his pass intercepted by an opposing forward.

The hosts came alive and within seconds Pavel Sulc had put the ball across the penalty area for Matej Vydra to open the scoring from close range.

It was a nightmare start to the second half for Ruben Amorim's side, who are looking to bounce back from successive defeats to Nottingham Forest and Arsenal.

Robbie Savage told TNT Sports: “The pass is off. Look at the press. Onana tries to play out, it's a terrible pass, moving away from the ball, out of his goal, they set traps, it was great play.

“Vydra wouldn't want to miss it, but that's not about systems, that's about individuals making the right decisions.”

Fortunately for United – and even more so for Onana – the Red Devils leveled the score against Plzen shortly afterwards when Rasmus Hojlund poked home from close range.

The incident comes just five days after Onana came under scrutiny for his performance in United's 3-2 defeat to Forest.

The Red Devils had fallen behind after Nikola Milenkovic's second-minute opener at Old Trafford before hitting back with Rasmus Hojlund equalizing for the hosts.

Forest restored their lead in the second half when Gibbs-White deceived Onana with an effort from outside the penalty area.

The Man United goalkeeper moved to his right to keep out the England international's effort, but Gibbs-White's shot flashed past his leg and into the center of the goal.

Onana's mistake was highlighted by Sky Sports pundit Redknapp as the key moment of the match, with Forest quickly adding a third through Chris Wood's looping header.

Bruno Fernandes pulled one back on the hour mark but Man United failed to equalise.

Meanwhile, during half-time of United's match against Plzen, Owen Hargreaves claimed Amorim was said to have been 'furious' with Man United's first half.

“They dominated possession but didn't actually create anything,” he told TNT Sports. 'I don't want to make excuses, but maybe it's cold. They have to do more, they have good players.

'Bruno [Fernandes] is there to play that ball but it is not on, just keep it. They try to find their way in the system. Amorim will be furious that they played like that.'

Karen Carney added: “I was excited to see [Joshua] Zirkzee in the middle, but they have been very sloppy. A few glimpses of Zirkzee but I'm disappointed, it lacked intensity and the decision making was poor.

“I feel like they slept a little bit in the last third.”
