One-cap former England star joins Macclesfield as Wayne Rooney’s brother’s No2 after Robbie Savage quit for Forest Green

Former Arsenal and Everton -striker Francis Jeffers is the new assistant manager of Macclesfield.

Jeffers becomes the sounding board for John Rooney – brother of Wayne Rooney – who was appointed first team boss at the beginning of the month.

The Management Reflection came after former head coach Robbie Savage left to join Forest Green Rovers.

Savage, also a long -term MACC board member, made the switch at the helm after just a year.

During his responsible season, the Silkmen won the Northern Premier League Premier Division and they provided promotion to the National League North.

The former Premier League star only dedicated himself to Macclesfield one month before signing a two-year contract.

Savage has now been replaced by Rooney and Jeffers.

After his arrival at the club, Jeffers said: “It's a huge opportunity. The Gaffer is someone I have known for a long time.

“I coached him, so I know what he's about. So I'm really looking forward to it.”

Jeffers started his professional gaming career at Everton in 1997 and joined Arsenal four years later.
