One transfer every Premier League club needs to make in January with Man Utd desperate

The January transfer window is just around the corner and with it the opportunity for Premier League clubs to strengthen for the second half of the season.

The market opens in two days and clubs can trade until February 3 as they try to save themselves from oblivion or set themselves up for success. The winter period can prove to be a precarious month for teams as prices are typically high and deals are needed for short-term goals rather than long-term planning.

For some, losing players will be more important than signing them. Mirror Football looks at the one deal each club should complete next month.

Arsenal

In the run-up to January, there is renewed discussion about whether Arsenal need a striker. A figure who, when fit, can divert attention from the likes of Bukayo Saka will certainly be helpful and if the Gunners really want to make a splash, it's hard to look past Viktor Gyokeres.

Aston Villa FC

Unai Emery's team continues to impress in Europe and at home, but a little extra depth would not go amiss. The Villans wanted a new defender in the summer but were unable to finance a deal after Diego Carlos was not moved.

Perhaps Paris Saint-Germain's out-of-favor Milan Skriniar will offer an opportunity.

AFC Bournemouth

The Cherries' main job may be to keep the current squad together, but there are rumors that a new defensive midfielder is already being eyed. Volodymyr Brazhko has been touted and the 22-year-old Dynamo Kiev star could be a very solid option.

Brentford

The Bees are also a solid-looking team and are best served by strengthening any weaknesses. They have done well in the past to sign experienced players and with Rico Henry out, they may be able to convince local rivals Chelsea to fund a loan for Ben Chilwell.

Brighton & Hove Albion

Deciding Evan Ferguson's future could be the most important deal the Seagulls make. The south coast doesn't need his services urgently at the moment, but continuing his development could be crucial for his place in the future, or for a potentially huge transfer fee.

If the club can find a move that will earn him playing time and chances in the penalty area in the Premier League, the club should take it.

Chelsea

The Blues will likely look to keep their squad stable in January and will do their best to avoid anything that could disrupt their strong start to the season. Finding a move for Ben Chilwell should be a priority to ensure the player gets an opportunity and can find some value in his eventual sale.

Crystal Palace

The Eagles did a lot of business in the summer and can remain calm in January. Converting Trevoh Chalobah's loan into a permanent deal would be a good thing, but perhaps Palace could take inspiration from signing Adam Wharton from the Championship 12 months ago.

Maybe they can pluck Jobe Bellingham from Sunderland this season.

Everton F.C

January offers Everton's new owners their first chance to make an impression. An attack could help Sean Dyche's side in 2025.

Lyon's precarious financial situation could make a lot possible for striker Georges Mikautadze.

Fulham

Finding a striker could be high on the Cottagers' agenda with talk of a loan move for Evan Ferguson. A more permanent solution may be preferable and Lille striker Jonathan David could flourish under Marco Silva.

Ipswich town

Glenn Kamara could be a good option for the Tractor Boys after Kalvin Phillips' struggles. The Rennes midfielder is also important for Southampton as they look to survive in the Premier League.

Leicester city

With the prospect of ending Odsonne Edouard's loan, Leicester could soon have a loan spot available and also need a new striker. Evan Ferguson could be an ideal candidate if they can reach an agreement with Brighton.

Liverpool F.C

Arne Slot has done quite well with little transfer activity to take advantage of. It would be a real statement to add Omar Marmoush from Frankfurt, although it could be difficult to get him in like the Reds' options.

Someone like Antonee Robinson could be a more pragmatic asset as Andrew Robertson enters the final stages of his career.

Manchester City F.C

Given the decline of Pep Guardiola's side since Rodri's injury against Arsenal in September, it is difficult to look beyond central midfield to provide a solution. Martin Zubimendi could be the ideal option, with Real Sociedad already second in his position behind his Spanish teammate.

Manchester United F.C

United have a host of things that need to be done to transform their fortunes. Above all, Marcus Rashford's departure must be facilitated to remove any distractions and any questions about his efforts on the training ground that could impact Ruben Amorim's ambitions.

This move will free up funds to strengthen the side as they desperately need.

Newcastle United

Johan Bakayoko was able to offer Newcastle more strength on the right flank, despite Jacob Murphy's purple spot. It would also make the Magpies more open to Miguel Almiron's departure from the club.

Nottingham forest

Nuno Espirito Santo's biggest priority will be not to rock the boat given Forest's impressive start to the season. Completing the summer transfer business having failed to add the striker they hoped could be useful if they could sign a long-standing target.

Corinthians' Yuri Alberto could be an intriguing option that former Arsenal transfer chief Edu could help with.

Southampton

Any business launching next month will be expected to walk the line of survival ambitions for this season or promotional dreams for next season. After Lesley Ugochukwu failed to make a significant impact on loan from Chelsea, another midfielder may be needed and that could be former Rangers and Leeds ace Glen Kamara.

Tottenham Hotspur FC

Ange Postecoglou had to play a barely fit Radu Dragus, as did Spurs' injury problems at the back. If Daniel Levy can make a good deal for Milan Skriniar, the ex-Inter defender could be an established option, or Barcelona's Andreas Christensen could bring Premier League experience.

Westham United

The Irons may struggle to make a big impact in January and they may shy away from Chelsea's price tag, but Carney Chukwuemeka could provide a good opportunity and bring some attacking cuts to the side.

Wolverhampton Wanderers

Vitor Pereira has got Wolves' season going and has talent, but the club's defensive record leaves a lot to be desired. Some reinforcement in the backline could go a long way and a figure like Ben Godrey, who is out of favor at Fiorentina, could bring Premier League experience.
