Opposition groups unite to demand resignation of Barcelona President Laporta

Barcelona president Joan Laporta is under more pressure than at any other point in his second term at the club after they failed to register Dani Olmo and Pau Victor before the La Liga and RFEF deadline. Both players may not be able to play for the rest of the season and can leave for free if they wish.

In addition to the stunned fanbase and criticism from the press, Laporta is facing an attempt to remove him from power completely. Former presidential rival Victor Font of the Si al Futur group published a letter earlier this week demanding an explanation, and has now demanded that Laporta step down as president immediately.

The petition, which unites Si al Futur and the other major opposition group 'Som un Clam', as well as eight other groups, describes Laporta and his mandate at a point of no return in terms of image, reputation and management. They say the lack of response could force them to pursue a vote of no confidence to remove him from power.

Reports earlier this week have claimed that Laporta has no intention of leaving his position, nor has he any desire to speak. The word from Barcelona is that no public statements will be made until Olmo and Victor's registrations are resolved, with the club now pursuing the matter with the Ministry of Sport, and then in court if they do not get the outcome they want.
