Osasuna file appeal over Barcelona fielding Martinez in 3-0 win

Osasuna has filed a complaint with the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), claiming that defender Inigo Martinez was not eligible on Thursday to face them in Laliga.

Martinez, who withdrew from the Spain Squad for their Nations League games after they had suffered a swollen right knee, played the full 90 minutes in the 3-0 win of Barcelona, who moved them three points of the second Real Madrid placed.

But Osasuna has now appealed to the RFEF on the availability of Martinez and claims that his selection has violated FIFA instructions.

Referring to those instructions in a club statement, Osasuna said: “FIFA indicates that a player who does not become a member or leaves his national team for medical reasons may not play matches for his club during the five calendar days after the end of the international period.

“Osasuna believes that Inigo Martinez, whose absence of the Spain team was due to medical leave, was not eligible to play in yesterday's game in accordance with FIFA regulations.”

The result left Osasuna 14th in the rankings, six points free of the relegation zone.
